Combat Zone term is popularized.

The term is used by a military police officer to describe the area frequented by military personnel on Lower Washington Street and where fights and brawls often occur. The Boston Daily Record subsequently uses it in the title of a series it runs about the area, written by reporters Jean Cole, Al Salie, and Frank Thompson. The area is made an official district by the city in 1974.*
